One of the highlights of our last meeting was the Student Voice presentation. We will share the video and narrative document that resulted from this powerful presentation that was facilitated by Dr. Tammy Campbell, Superintendent of Federal Way Public Schools.
The 2nd Quarterly Meeting of the Black Education Strategy Roundtable is fast approaching and we are looking forward to your presence and participation. The meeting is scheduled for Saturday, May 21st, from 10:30 to 3:00 pm at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 15920 West Valley Highway near Southcenter. Please note that this is a different site from our last 2 meetings and returns to an earlier site for previous gatherings in the past. Please Register Here.
As our usual custom, we will provide current information and data about the status of educational achievement for our Black/African American students and equip you for enhancing your advocacy for equitable and excellent outcomes for public education in this state. We have recently completed a 3-year Strategic Action Plan for the Roundtable. We highlighted the mission, vision, guiding principles, goals, strategies, and action steps at our last quarterly meeting in February. The implementation of the Plan will be presented at this meeting and you will gain a sense of the scope and sequence with which the plan is being executed over the next 3 years. The first initiatives include that of community asset mapping, restoring HOPE to our students and families, as well as identifying supplemental learning opportunities for our youth and communities. These topics will be introduced and explored at this meeting. A more in-depth presentation will be made by ELEVATE LEARNING following the conclusion of the regular quarterly meeting from 3:30 to 6:00 pm. A reception will be provided, with time for questions plus hands-on participation by attendees of this education product. Please Register Here if you plan to also stay for the reception and presentation. LEARN MORE HERE about ELEVATE LEARNING.
One of the highlights of our last meeting was the Student Voice presentation. We were captivated by the voices of 27 diverse Black/African American students from 7 different school districts and institutions, ranging from 5th grade through college graduate who helped us to better understand their daily plight and challenges as they maneuver the landmines of the education process. We will share the video and narrative document that resulted from this powerful presentation that was facilitated by Dr. Tammy Campbell, Superintendent of Federal Way Public Schools. The final Strategic Plan certainly reflects the sentiments voiced by these brilliant and talented young people.
We continue to pursue alternative funding resources as we move forward and are on the trail of promising grants, donations and contributions that will allow us to continue this critical work. Thank you for partnering with us to make a brighter future a possibility for our youth and their families. Morning snacks and lunch will be provided, as usual. We look forward to seeing you on May 21st.
